Whether you’re an undergraduate, a PhD student, working on a school project or simply curious:
The Freiberg University Library offers a dedicated programme of workshops, guided tours and advisory sessions for students, PhD candidates, researchers, school pupils and anyone else who’s interested.
All events are designed to be interactive and practice-oriented; with us, it’s all about getting involved rather than just listening.

Research using AI: fully integrated
For us, artificial intelligence is not a separate topic, but an integral part of our research courses. You will learn to use AI tools effectively, to critically evaluate results, and to combine traditional and AI-supported methods in a meaningful way.
For students
At the start of the semester, you’ll get to know the University Library in a 30-minute introductory session. Building on this, three research courses take you step by step from the basics to subject-specific research for your dissertation. We also offer courses on reference management with Zotero, equipment training for the podcast studio, 3D printers and VR headsets, as well as short breaks during the exam period, such as the VR study break.
For PhD students and researchers
A dedicated induction session will introduce you to the University Library’s services and its subject librarians. There are in-depth courses on copyright and licences, on Open Access as part of Open Access Week, and a two-day intensive course on research data management. Research courses, Zotero and equipment training certificates are also available to you.
For school pupils (from Year 10 onwards)
For school classes, we offer five modules which teachers can book via our online booking system: a guided tour with a treasure hunt, a workshop on literature research and AI, a research rally on STEM topics featuring VR and podcast recording, a 3D printing workshop where you can take home your own model, and a games break. The modules can be combined into a half-day or full-day programme.
For anyone interested
Residents of Freiberg are also very welcome! In “Discovering the University Library & Research in Everyday Life”, you’ll get to know the library and learn how to identify reliable sources. In the after-work workshop “AI in Everyday Life”, you’ll try out AI tools in practice, and in our workshop on historical collections, you’ll discover treasures such as the estate of Abraham Gottlob Werner.
Taking part
Most courses are open to all without registration – simply drop in. Courses requiring registration are marked as such. All courses can also be requested on an individual basis, for example for groups, university modules or school classes. You can also submit requests and new course ideas there.
