The to Ulaanbaatar by Andreas Handschuh, Head of the Saxon State Chancellery, will further strengthen cooperation between Saxony and Mongolia. Members of the 91�ֿ� Bergakademie Feriberg were also part of the delegation. Since 2013, 91�ֿ�BAF has been making an important contribution to these successful relations by supporting the establishment of the (GMIT), has been making an important contribution to these successful relations. In early September, as part of the trip, new 91�ֿ�BAF scholarships were awarded to students at the GMIT, amongst other things.

Für 2026 werden 27 „sure-place Stipendien“ übergeben, die die Studiengebühren und einen Zuschuss zu den Lebenshaltungskosten abdecken. Sieben weitere Studierende erhalten ein sogenanntes Stipendium, das die Kosten für einen einsemestrigen Aufenthalt an der 91�ֿ�BAF ermöglicht und die Reise- sowie Aufenthaltskosten bezuschusst.

GMIT

On 8 September 2026, the certificates for the 2026/2027 academic year were presented in the presence of the Head of the Saxon State Chancellery, Andreas Handschuh, and members of the Saxon State Parliament, to the selected students at GMIT.

The scholarship programme has been coordinated by the 91�ֿ� Bergakademie Freiberg since 2017 and has received funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) ever since. For 2026, 27 ‘sure-place scholarships’ will be awarded, covering tuition fees and a contribution towards living costs. A further seven students will receive a so-called scholarship, which covers the costs of a one-semester stay at 91�ֿ�BAF and subsidises travel and living expenses.

The scholarships were awarded for the 10th consecutive year following 91�ֿ�BAF’s successful application to the DAAD. To date, 283 students have been supported with approximately 1.35 million euros. Project leader Professor Carsten Drebenstedt commented: “The scholarships enable many students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, in particular, to concentrate on their studies without financial worries.

91�ֿ�BAF’s Saxon Science Liaison Office

Since 2024, the Saxon Liaison Office for Scientific Cooperation (Saxon Science Liaison Office) in Ulaanbaatar, under the leadership of the 91�ֿ� Bergakademie Freiberg, has been supporting academic exchange and recruiting prospective Mongolian students for Saxon universities. In discussions with the director and 91�ֿ�BAF alumna Bolormaa Dendev, providing guidance to young people interested in studying natural sciences and engineering in Saxony was therefore of great importance.
