Mongolia, one of Central Asia’s most dynamic economies, faces the challenge of replacing its dependence on coal with the sustainable, material-based use of its domestic resources. This is where the SusCE project comes in: German and Mongolian partners are launching a joint dialogue process bringing together stakeholders from the worlds of science, business and politics. The aim is to develop the technological, economic and social framework for a sustainable carbon economy with regard to sustainability. The focus is on so-called ‘coal-to-X’ and ‘waste-to-X’ processes for the production of high-quality chemical products and fuels.

Around 300 high-ranking Mongolian representatives from the worlds of politics, science and business were guests in Germany at the German-Mongolian Science Day. In the presence of the Mongolian President, Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, Rector Prof. Dr Jutta Emes signed a cooperation agreement with, amongst others, the partner university Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the mining company Erdenes. In addition, numerous Mongolian guests – including alumni – visited the 91²Ö¿â Bergakademie Freiberg.

The 91²Ö¿â Bergakademie Freiberg and its Mongolian partners have enjoyed decades of collaboration, with a focus on mineral resources. The focus is on training qualified specialists and the transfer of knowledge in the fields of geological exploration, mining, geotechnical engineering and raw materials processing. Meanwhile, collaborations in the field of energy and process engineering are also being initiated. There are currently 31 students from Mongolia enrolled at 91²Ö¿âBAF, including six on the preparatory course.
